The government remains dedicated to protecting media independence and enabling journalists to conduct their work with professional integrity, Deputy Higher Education Minister Adam Adli Abd Halim stated in Melaka on June 15. Speaking at the Hang Tuah Jaya Parliamentary Media Bowling Championship, he stressed the necessity of building stronger collaborative relationships between government institutions and news organisations.
Adam Adli emphasised that the media serves a critical function in counteracting disinformation and misleading content spread through digital platforms. The government acknowledges the press's responsibility in ensuring citizens receive factual and well-sourced reporting, he added, noting that such coverage proves increasingly important in today's information environment.
News outlets that maintain high standards of journalistic practice and ethical conduct carry significant responsibility in helping citizens comprehend complex issues accurately, the Hang Tuah Jaya MP observed. As the nation approaches several upcoming state elections, he expressed confidence that media practitioners will continue delivering balanced reporting that presents multiple viewpoints.
Adam Adli stressed the importance of allowing news organisations to provide diverse coverage perspectives, enabling the public to form sound political decisions based on comprehensive information. He commended journalists for their ongoing collaboration with government bodies and characterised the bowling tournament as reflecting the robust partnership and mutual respect between authorities and the media sector.
