SEREMBAN, April 7 — A military personnel was brought before the Magistrates’ Court here today, facing charges of injuring a woman last month.
The accused, Abdul Hafiz Abu Bakar, 35, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read out before Magistrate Syed Farid Syed Ali, Berita Harian reported today.
The accused is charged with intentionally punching a 28-year-old woman in the head at Taman Satria, Senawang, around 10.20pm on March 29.
The offence is punishable under Section 323 of the Penal Code, with a penalty of up to one year in prison or a maximum fine of RM2,000.
Deputy public prosecutor Nadia Ezzati Mohd Zainal proposed a bail of RM2,000 with one surety and requested a mention date for the case.
It was reported that the accused’s lawyer, Chrysandy Lai from the National Legal Aid Foundation, requested a lower bail, citing that his client supports two young children, as well as his parents and wife.
The court granted bail of RM2,000 with one surety.
The mention for document submission and the full medical report has been scheduled for May 19.
Last month, a 22-second video showing a female driver being punched by a man near Taipan Senawang went viral and was reported by media outlets. The incident is believed to have occurred after the man became enraged, claiming that his child was hit by the driver while crossing the road.
