KANGAR, March 28 — A freelance preacher was remanded for two days, starting today, to assist in an investigation into a sedition case linked to a Facebook post, which could threaten public order.
The lawyer representing the 41-year-old preacher, Zuhair Ahmad Zakuan, along with nine other legal counsel, said the remand order was issued by Magistrate Ana Rozana Mohd Nor.
Zuhair said the case is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, and Section 298A of the Penal Code. He said this to reporters at the Kangar Court Complex, today.
Yesterday, the media reported that police arrested the man in Taman Melati Indah, Beseri, Kangar, Perlis, before taking him to the Padang Besar district police headquarters (IPD), for remand at the Kangar Court today.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain also confirmed that the man was arrested following a police report lodged at the Dang Wangi IPD, over his social media posts concerning the relocation of the Dewi Sri Pathrakaliamman Temple.
Razarudin said that the complainant requested the police to investigate the preacher, over remarks which allegedly contained seditious elements and defamed the Hindu religion.
On Tuesday, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, announced that the new temple site, covering an area of 4,000 square feet, is located approximately 50 metres from its original location. — Bernama
