KOTA KINABALU, March 28 — Parti Warisan has reaffirmed its commitment to helping the people, even as the party faces increasing difficulties in securing venues for its charitable programs.
A scheduled breaking-of-fast event with Kampung Petagas residents at Al-Jannah Mosque in Putatan was abruptly relocated today due to what Warisan described as “unavoidable circumstances.”
Party president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal revealed that Warisan has repeatedly encountered challenges in finding locations — including mosques and community halls — for its aid initiatives, some of which he himself had inaugurated during his tenure as Sabah Chief Minister.
“We choose accessible venues like mosques so people don’t have to travel far. Charity should never come with conditions,” Shafie told reporters.
At the event, the Semporna MP focused on Ramadan’s spiritual significance, discussing Quranic teachings and Islamic history — not as a religious scholar, he clarified, but as a policymaker experienced in shaping faith-based legislation.
When asked if political interference was behind their venue troubles, Shafie did not directly accuse any party but emphasised Warisan’s determination to continue serving the public.
“As Chief Minister, I ensured no one blocked charitable efforts. Now, even buying ‘kuih’ gets politicised,” he said, referencing a recent incident where his visit to a Ramadan stall was misrepresented online as election campaigning.
Undeterred, Warisan proceeded with a breaking-fast event at Al-Amin Mosque in Kampung Serigai, distributing rice and essentials to over 200 residents.
Shafie urged Muslims to sustain good deeds beyond Ramadan, calling it an opportunity to showcase Islam’s positive values.
Warisan leaders, including vice president Datuk Junz Wong, joined the event. — The Borneo Post
