Three people, including a woman, have been arrested in Pekan following an investigation into the illegal sale and forgery of medical leave certificates. The District Health Office (PKD) initiated the probe after receiving a complaint on June 10, and the suspects were apprehended on June 15 at approximately 3 pm.

According to Pekan police chief Supt Mohd Zaidi Mat Zin, the three detainees—a mechanic, workshop proprietor and cleaner all in their 30s—are believed to have functioned as middlemen in the operation. They allegedly facilitated the distribution and sale of the fraudulent documents to customers.

The investigation revealed that the forged certificates were being marketed at prices ranging from RM50 to RM200 per document. A medical officer whose credentials appeared on the certificates confirmed he had been reassigned to a different facility in 2023 and that the official stamp used was outdated and no longer authorised for use.

Police have established that the scheme operated in a structured manner, with the three arrested individuals responsible for locating clients and handling transactions. The main suspect, identified as a female government employee attached to a clinic, is believed to have been the source of the counterfeit medical leave certificates and remains at large.

The three detained individuals will be presented before the Pekan Magistrate's Court for remand proceedings. Charges are being prepared under Sections 468 and 420 of the Penal Code, which address forgery and fraud respectively.
