The Shuttle Selatan service, connecting three major Johor towns, commenced operations today at Kulai KTM station. Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced the launch alongside Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and senior state officials. The new rail-based transit option is anticipated to serve more than two million commuters across Kulai, JB Sentral and Pasir Gudang.
Two primary routes form the initial service framework. The Kulai-JB Sentral-Kulai route and the Kempas Baru-Pasir Gudang-Kempas Baru route will operate from the outset. Passengers can expect approximately 40 minutes on the Kulai to JB Sentral corridor, while the Kempas Baru to Pasir Gudang journey spans 40 to 45 minutes.
To expand accessibility, the government intends to add three new stations—Taman Daya, Bandar Baru Sri Alam and Pasir Putih—in future phases. A longer-term development plan also includes extending coverage from Paloh through Kluang, Renggam and Layang-Layang to Kulai.
Connectivity solutions have been integrated into the launch strategy. Feeder bus networks, coordinated Bas.My routes, dedicated shuttle services at Kempas Baru and park-and-ride facilities at AEON Bandar Dato' Onn enhance accessibility for first and last-mile journeys. The government distributed 3,000 complimentary Commuter MADANI Shuttle Selatan Cards across Johor, each loaded with RM50 credit for unlimited travel over a designated period.
Loke emphasised that the service supports Johor's rapid economic growth across industrial, logistics, port, education and commercial sectors. The implementation involved collaboration between the Ministry of Transport, Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) and the Railway Assets Corporation (RAC), which provided over RM150,000 in incentives to promote public transport adoption.
