Complementing the satellite pilot initiative, the government is simultaneously advancing the MADANI Submarine Cable Connection (SALAM) project, which planners view as transformative for Sabah's digital economy trajectory. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission has recently intensified its monitoring efforts, identifying more than 2,000 fraudulent social media accounts over a five to six week period alone. These fake accounts primarily distribute misleading information, explicit content, and messages promoting gambling schemes and financial scams. Officials acknowledge that Sabah likely experiences proportional exposure to such threats, necessitating coordinated law enforcement and regulatory action to dismantle these criminal networks and protect vulnerable populations from predatory online schemes.
