The Malaysian Meteorological Department has cautioned residents across a wide swathe of the country to expect severe weather over the coming hours, with thunderstorms and heavy downpours forecast to persist until 6pm today. The alert encompasses nine states plus the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, with strong winds also anticipated in affected areas.

The northern region is among those in the firing line, with the entirety of Perlis placed under warning alongside selected districts in Kedah including Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar and Pokok Sena. On the east coast, parts of Terengganu face the volatile conditions, specifically Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Hulu Terengganu, Kuala Terengganu, Marang and Dungun, while Pahang residents in Raub, Bentong, Temerloh, Bera and Rompin should also prepare for the downpour.

The central region is not spared, with portions of Selangor bracing for impact across Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Hulu Langat. Negeri Sembilan's districts of Jelebu, Kuala Pilah, Jempol and Tampin are similarly affected, and southern Johor faces the weather system in Segamat, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Mersing, Pontian and Kulai.

East Malaysian areas have also received warnings from MetMalaysia. In Sarawak, the vulnerable zones span Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu and Selangau, Mukah, Tatau, Bintulu, Subis, Marudi, Miri and Limbang. Sabah's warning covers the Interior districts of Keningau and Tambunan, the West Coast region, and divisions in Tawau and Sandakan including Kunak and Lahad Datu.
