Malaysia's national-level Ma'al Hijrah celebration for 1448H/2026M commences this afternoon at Putra Mosque in Putrajaya with a Tausiyyah session and Quranic recitation starting at 4 pm. The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) confirmed that Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan will attend, while the mosque's grand imam Dr Muhamad Zakuwa Rodzali will lead the prayer recital.
The primary festivities unfold tomorrow morning at Putra Mosque beginning at 7 am, coinciding with 1 Muharam 1448H. The event will feature the presentation of both National and International Tokoh Ma'al Hijrah Awards, with the ceremony to be graced by Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah. Organisers anticipate approximately 5,000 attendees, comprising the Deputy Prime Minister, Cabinet members, senior government officials, university leaders and corporate representatives from the greater Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur region.
JAKIM director-general Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee explained that this year's theme, "MADANI Dihayati, Ummah Diberkati," draws inspiration from Prophet Muhammad's Hijrah and the founding of Madinah as a centre of Islamic civilisation. He noted that the values embodied during this migration—justice, unity, reliability, compassion and well-being—mirror the foundations of Malaysia MADANI, which champions sustainable development, financial security, creative advancement, accountability and mutual care.
A significant innovation this year is Tausiyyah @ Ma'al Hijrah, designed to deepen reflection on Quranic teachings and motivate Muslims to embrace Hijrah as a transformative force. The initiative enables attendees to engage with recitations by accomplished Quranic reapers while gaining practical insights applicable to everyday circumstances.
The programme continues with the National and International Tokoh Ma'al Hijrah 1448H/2026M Premier Lecture scheduled for June 18 at Auditorium Putrajaya Islamic Complex from 9 am. This platform permits award honourees to exchange expertise, personal journeys and accomplishments contributing to community advancement. According to Sirajuddin, organisers have adopted a restrained yet purposeful approach aligned with government initiatives to reinforce Malaysia's economic stability while maintaining public welfare standards.
