Police in Taiping have arrested a man suspected of stealing Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) cables early this morning. The theft occurred along the Padang Rengas-Kamunting line at Km95.75, where officers discovered that approximately 43 metres of cable had been removed from the railway infrastructure.
The suspect was detained following an investigation into the incident. Authorities responded quickly to the report, allowing them to locate and detain the individual believed responsible for the theft.
Theft of railway cables has emerged as an ongoing concern for KTMB, as these materials carry considerable scrap value. The cables are targeted by thieves who sell them for their copper content, disrupting rail operations and requiring costly repairs.
The case has been registered and police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the theft at this Perak railway location.
