Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has backed an understanding reached between the United States and Iran to halt hostilities, with a memorandum of understanding expected to be signed imminently. In remarks posted on Facebook, Anwar highlighted Pakistan's crucial mediation in achieving this diplomatic breakthrough.
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of swiftly reopening the Strait of Hormuz for global maritime traffic, describing the vital waterway as essential to worldwide energy supplies and commerce. He cautioned that extended disruption would disadvantage all parties involved in international trade and energy markets.
Anwar called on all stakeholders to demonstrate good faith, act without hesitation and work toward converting the current understanding into a comprehensive, durable peace agreement. He warned that external powers and the parties themselves must avoid any step that could undermine the diplomatic process or reignite conflict.
The Prime Minister appealed to the global community to maintain momentum in pursuit of peace, emphasizing that Malaysia remains prepared to contribute to achieving a fair and permanent resolution of the dispute.
