Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has called on MADANI Communities throughout the country to play an active role in ensuring the public receives accurate, verified and dependable information regarding government policies, programmes and accomplishments.
Fahmi stressed that this responsibility must be borne collectively rather than being delegated exclusively to government institutions like the Information Department (JAPEN) and the Community Communications Department (J-KOM). Speaking at the Jiwa MADANI programme in Kota Bharu on June 16, he highlighted several recent policy successes that community leaders should actively promote at grassroots level.
Among the achievements cited were food security measures such as maintaining adequate rice stocks during festive periods through schemes administered by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security. He also noted that subsidised cooking oil, previously difficult to obtain, is now readily available to consumers under the Cooking Oil Price Stabilisation Scheme System (eCOSS) overseen by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living. Fahmi attributed these gains to the administration of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
To support community leaders in their outreach efforts, the Communications Ministry intends to conduct regular briefing sessions keeping them abreast of current developments and policy initiatives requiring public communication. During the event, Fahmi presented appointment letters to newly installed Kelantan MADANI Community leaders for the 2026-2027 term.
Fahmi underscored that JAPEN would be assigned to evaluate the effectiveness of MADANI Communities in disseminating information at the grassroots. He warned that underperforming or inactive community units would face scrutiny, with replacements made where necessary to maintain service standards.
