Seventeen residents from eight households were moved to an emergency shelter at Sekolah Kebangsaan Batu Hampar following flash flooding in Kampung Sungai Rotan, Trong in the Larut, Matang and Selama district on Thursday evening.
The district's Civil Defence Force received word of the inundation at 5.40 pm, with authorities attributing the flooding to two consecutive hours of rainfall combined with drainage blockages in the area.
Waters in Kampung Sungai Rotan rose rapidly to approximately 0.5 metres depth before beginning to recede by 6.21 pm, though rain continued to fall at the time, the Civil Defence Force stated.
District disaster management committee chairman Mohd Nasrul Menhat confirmed that the relief centre opened at 8 pm following the flooding affecting Kampung Batu 23 and Kampung Batu 25 in the Sungai Rotan and Batu Hampar areas.
