Iran's Bank Coordination Council confirmed on Sunday that a "limited cyberattack" caused operational disruptions across four major financial institutions: the National Bank of Iran, Bank Tejarat, Bank Saderat Iran, and Bank Tosee Saderat, according to the state-run news agency IRNA.
Technical teams swiftly deployed safeguards to defend client information and the banking system's infrastructure once unusual activity was detected, the council stated. The attack specifically targeted the shared communications infrastructure linking the four banks rather than individual institutions.
Investigations determined the disruption stemmed from the focused cyberattack, with authorities emphasizing that customer records remained secure throughout the incident. The council noted that no deletion of information occurred and there was no unauthorised access to sensitive banking details.
Currently, technical personnel maintain full oversight of all systems affected by the attack. The council indicated that restoration efforts and additional security reinforcements are proceeding as operational teams work to fully restore normal banking functions.
