The Federal Government's decision to raise Sabah's interim Special Grant from RM600 million to RM1.5 billion represents a tangible commitment to honouring the state's rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963, according to Gabungan Rakyat Sabah secretary-general Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the increase on May 31, marking what GRS describes as a pivotal advancement for Sabah's fiscal sustainability.

While legal proceedings concerning Sabah's 40 per cent revenue entitlement continue, GRS insists that the review of the Special Grant under Articles 112C and 112D of the Federal Constitution must proceed to completion, with the revised allocation to be gazetted this year. The party views the announcement as consistent with assurances provided by the Prime Minister during a November 13, 2025 address in the Dewan Rakyat, where he acknowledged the MADANI Government's recognition of Sabah's constitutional 40 per cent entitlement.

Armizan, who also serves as Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister, recently convened a meeting with several Sabah MPs to assess progress on implementing the 40 per cent entitlement, which remains among the state's paramount priorities. The discussion underscored the ongoing focus on resolving what Sabah considers a fundamental matter of constitutional recognition and financial equity.

GRS pledges to maintain an assertive yet collaborative approach in safeguarding Sabah's interests and constitutional rights. The party emphasises its intention to pursue these objectives through sustained dialogue, strategic negotiation, and constructive partnership with the Federal Government.
