Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has welcomed Tan Sri Nallini Pathmanathan's appointment as chairman of the Malaysian Media Council (MMC), the media industry's self-regulatory organisation established under the Malaysian Media Council Act 2025.
Fahmi took to Facebook to extend his felicitations to the former Federal Court judge, expressing confidence that she would champion responsible media freedom while bolstering journalistic standards across the nation.
"Congratulations to Tan Sri Nallini Pathmanathan on her appointment as chairman of the Malaysian Media Council. May the council continue to uphold responsible media freedom, strengthen journalistic ethics and play an important role in advancing the voice of the media industry so that it remains sustainable and trusted. Wishing you all the best in your service, Tan Sri," the minister said in his statement.
Nallini's appointment was unanimously endorsed by the MMC's board members during a meeting held on May 26. The council later issued a statement describing the development as a watershed moment for the organisation, highlighting its commitment to operating as an impartial, credible body that prioritises the public interest while regulating the media sector.
