Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek presented an approval letter yesterday for the construction of a new building for Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Heng Ee in George Town. The facility will be located within the Barat Daya district education office (PPD) jurisdiction. The relocation will see the school move from its current premises, with the existing site returned to its original owner.

Fadhlina stressed that the new building is essential to deliver learning spaces that meet contemporary standards and support the growing needs of the surrounding community. The initiative aligns with the government's commitment to the Malaysia Education Blueprint and the rollout of a new curriculum scheduled for next year.

The school, working alongside its Parent-Teacher Association, board of governors, and alumni networks, has been actively fundraising to finance the ambitious project. To date, RM22 million has been collected, though additional resources are required to fully equip the facility with classrooms, laboratories, furnishings, and associated infrastructure.

Fadhlina acknowledged the collaborative fundraising efforts, which include a planned dinner celebration coinciding with the school's 70th anniversary. She reaffirmed that the Ministry of Education will assess potential support mechanisms for the government-aided institution, particularly regarding maintenance obligations once construction concludes.

The minister highlighted that investing in school infrastructure directly enhances the educational experience and learning outcomes for students. Such improvements create the physical environment necessary to implement new teaching methodologies and sustain quality education delivery.
